Principle 3 - Market Selectively

Plan not for “tourism” but for those tourist segments most likely to appreciate, respect, and disseminate information about the distinctive assets of the area.

Glacier Country Tourism, a non-profit destination marketing organization, effectively and glacier-country-logoresponsibly markets Western Montana to visitors and educates the public regarding the value of tourism, while encouraging respect for our outstanding natural environment and quality of life. Glacier Country works collaboratively to build a balanced partnership among eight Western Montana counties (Flathead, Glacier, Lake, Lincoln, Mineral, Missoula, Ravalli and Sanders), Glacier National Park and many other entities in this effort.

Target markets are active and affluent travel enthusiasts who are looking for an authentic Montana experience. Their interests are multifaceted and include outdoor recreation, wildlife viewing, arts and culture, history, shopping, relaxing and dining, as well as other opportunities that are available throughout Western Montana and the Crown of the Continent. The visitor Glacier Country speaks to is one who will appreciate not only the landscape but those who inhabit it.

The overall goals for Glacier Country Tourism are to attract new visitors who want to visit Glacier National Park and inspire them to return to Montana to explore other areas of the region. Plus, 86 percent of first time visitors return to Big Sky Country out of a sense of connection and the desire to discover and experience more of Montana.
